WELCOME FROM THE FQHC CEOs

Hello! As a long-time Program Director, I am so excited to now lead an innovative new program, bringing the “best of both worlds” together in family medicine training. Being a Milwaukee native, I come from a similar background as many of our patients and feel especially committed to our patient population and clinic community. I welcome you to the online home for the Froedtert & MCW North Side Family Medicine Residency Program. We are thrilled to begin training family medicine residents in July 2023 and invite you to be an important part of building something great. Embedded in the heart of Milwaukee’s North Side, which is home to one of the city’s largest African-American populations, our program will be an ideal place to learn and practice full-spectrum family medicine, partnering with the region’s only Academic Medical Center, long recognized for its clinical, educational, and research excellence.

Our main goal is to provide academically- strong, community-centered family medicine training that is culturally appropriate for Milwaukee’s urban community. Our faculty have years of experience training residents, and we know what it takes to provide excellent education and clinical care. Doing this work at federally qualified community health centers enable us to design an adaptable program that will meet community needs and prepare you well for all practice settings.

We are currently recruiting for a class of 14 residents per year for a total complement of 42 residents. Through partnerships with Milwaukee FQHCs, Froedtert Hospital, Children’s Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin, residents will have the opportunity to access the highest level of academic and clinical resources, while remaining based in a community setting. Outpatient rotations including resident continuity clinic will occur at community health center settings, where residents will develop patient panels and learn what it really means to care for the community.

If you’re not very familiar with Milwaukee, it is a great place to live! Nestled along a magnificent bluff overlooking Lake Michigan, the vibrant downtown is home to a thriving restaurant and live music scene, botanical gardens, a world-class symphony orchestra, museums, a ballet company, a theater district, the Milwaukee Bucks, the Milwaukee Brewers and numerous large music and cultural festivals. Metro Milwaukee is located only 90 minutes north of Chicago which is easily accessible by car or train, yet is a more affordable place to work, live and play, big enough to be exciting and uncongested enough to get around easily. Milwaukee’s many neighborhoods have much charm and accommodate a variety of lifestyles from high-rise apartments to small farms. The Lake and its harbors are skirted by scenic parklands and provide first class opportunities for recreation.

Thanks for taking the time to learn more about the new Froedtert & MCW North Side Family Medicine Residency Program. It is my sincere hope that you will consider us for your training!
